Dr. Polselli has been involved in online learning since beginning his doctoral research in 1999 and continues to refine how to most effectively implement "blended" learning opportunities for students. Through the development of an online, mentor-supported training model, Dr. Polselli began his adventure in the realm of online learning and as an IT Director and FAA certified flight instructor he has implemented both completely online learning environments as well as blended experiences for teachers and students. Programs like Virtual High School, Florida Virtual School, and Apex Learning have provided learning opportunities for students that would otherwise not been possible in a traditional classroom setting. Online learning offers students' differentiated experiences that can be more rigorous and require a greater degree of self-direction, characteristics that are essential for preparing students for college and the world of work. Furthermore, asynchronous courses that do not depend upon students and teachers working together in the same place at the same time expands academic opportunities by alleviating scheduling conflicts and allowing schools to run courses with enrollment as low as 1 student! Online learning, done properly, can be an incredible addition to a traditional high or middle school program. |
